Elastomac Pothole & Surface Repair

Permanent, sustainable pothole and surface repair — bonded, waterproof and traffic-ready in minutes. Shawfield is an authorised installer of Roadmender Elastomac.

An authorised installer of Roadmender Elastomac — a permanent, sustainable pothole and surface repair system already used by local authorities across the UK to fix roads faster, cheaper and with a far smaller carbon footprint than traditional methods.

Unlike cold-lay patching, which is often only a temporary fix, Elastomac is hot-applied and bonds directly to the existing surface — sealing potholes, cracks and edge failures with a flexible, waterproof membrane that locks out the water ingress and freeze-thaw damage that causes most repairs to fail.

Why it works better than traditional patching

Permanent, not temporary

Bonds mechanically and chemically with the existing surface rather than sitting on top of it.

Waterproof & flexible

Stops the water ingress and freeze-thaw cycle that causes repeat pothole failures.

Fast turnaround

Sites can typically reopen to traffic within minutes of a repair being completed.

No excavation required

Less disruption, less noise, and no dust or hand-arm vibration issues from saw-cutting and jackhammering.

Sustainable

Made using recycled aggregate, bitumen and polymers, including reclaimed end-of-life tyres — a significantly lower carbon footprint than traditional asphalt repair.

A natural fit alongside our line marking services. Since we’re already on-site delivering line marking and car park work, Elastomac lets us repair surface defects and refresh markings in a single visit — minimising disruption and site downtime.

How an Elastomac repair works

1

Inspection

The defect is assessed and any loose or failed material removed.

2

Heating

The compound is heated to the correct working temperature on-site.

3

Placement

Hot material is poured in, bonding directly with the existing surface.

4

Finished flush

The repair is levelled to match the surrounding surface.

5

Reopen

The area is ready for traffic within minutes of cooling.

Frequently asked questions

Is Elastomac suitable for areas that stay in use during the repair?
Yes — Elastomac cures rapidly and the repaired area is typically ready for traffic within minutes, minimising closures and disruption to your site.
How long does an Elastomac repair last?
It’s designed as a permanent repair, with a service life measured in years rather than the months typical of temporary cold-lay patching.
Will the pothole come back?
Elastomac forms a waterproof, flexible seal that bonds to the surrounding surface, significantly reducing the water ingress and edge fretting that cause most repeat pothole failures.
Is it more expensive than a standard patch?
The initial cost can be higher than a basic cold-lay patch, but the whole-life cost is usually lower once you account for eliminating repeat repairs and repeat site visits.
